Proving Ground
Unlike its competitors, CUB puts all its camper trailer designs through a rigorous test program at the company’s Southern Highlands (NSW) Proving Ground.
The CUB Proving Ground has been constructed on 200 acres of privately-owned land that features steep, rocky slopes and river-edge sand. Tracks on the property have been developed to replicate rural property roads and the access roads are heavily corrugated.
In addition to the formed tracks are set-piece, military-style courses, including a ‘mogul’ field that torture-twists CUB Camper trailer bodies, chassis and suspensions. Another Proving Ground feature is a pair of steep mounds that replicate typical creek banks. This section of the site is ideal for checking approach and departure angles.
CUB makes as much as possible in-house – including our tent and awning sections – in order to control quality. All CUB design innovations are checked out personally by CUB’s founder Roger Fagan.
“I’ve never been one to shout from the rooftops about CUB design and testing process, but the influx of patently unsafe, cheap imports stirred me to act,” says Roger. “Buyers need to be made aware that the key to a successful camping holiday is a camper trailer that has a tested, proved design.”
According to Roger, only by testing is it possible to build camper trailers that have optimum strength and weight. “Many of the Camper trailers I see in the marketplace are far too heavy, putting a strain on the trailer suspension and the towing vehicle,” says Roger. “We know, from many years of testing and experience, how much chassis, body and suspension weight is needed for maximum durability and exactly where it needs to be apportioned.”
