Introducing the New Frontier - Cub Campers

Introducing the New Frontier

12 April 2021

Since its initial release in 2016 as the only Australian Made Forward Fold Camper Trailer, the Cub Frontier fast became our most popular model and has held onto that title for a little over 5 years. It is, by far, the easiest forward fold on the market to set up and built to handle the toughest conditions the Outback can throw at it, so it’s no surprise that it has become the camper Cub is best known for.

Over the last five years, we’ve had a lot of feedback from customers and we’ve used this to take the Frontier to the next level. The new Cub Frontier has everything you could possibly want for your next big adventure, so let’s take a look:

You may have seen recently that the Cub Drifter was the winner of the Camper Trailer of the Year competition’s Best Build Quality award, and we’ve taken many of the features we included on that camper and made them standard on the new Frontier. The colour of the Frontier has been updated to match the Scout and the CTOTY Drifter and will now feature “Monument” panels as standard. The drawbar on the new Frontier has been extended by 100mm to allow for better manoeuvrability and ease of access to the back of your vehicle while the camper is still hitched up, and is made from 150mm x 50mm x 3.0mm Australian Steel to get you to and back from the most remote outback locations. We’ve also added an extra clamp to the drawbar that allows you to attach the jockey wheel when towing so you no longer need to worry about it taking up extra space in your vehicle or camper – an extremely handy addition when you’re heading on a long trip and every storage area is a valuable commodity.

On the interior, we’ve extended the bed from a Cub Queen to a Cub King, which measures in at a leg-stretching 2100mm x 1600mm x 135mm. We’ve also upgraded the mattress from an inner-spring to a Slumberest Cloud 9 Pillow Top mattress for maximum comfort. On the dinette area, we have included corner in-fill cushions to eliminate the once-empty corner areas around the table which replaces the throw pillows.

When it comes to off-grid holidays, you’ll want the best when it comes to power and lighting and we’ve included some really exciting new additions as standard to ensure that you feel right at home, even in the most remote areas. To get the most out of your power system, we’ve upgraded from AGM batteries and now every new Frontier will come standard with 100ah of Lithium power. Lithium batteries are significantly lighter than AGM batteries whilst also boasting a longer lifespan and greater charging efficiency. Additionally, lithium batteries have a depth of discharge of around 80-90% (as opposed to AGM batteries which have around 50%), allowing it to be discharged right down to 10-20% of its capacity without affecting the battery’s life cycle and allow for more time off-grid without needing to be charged. To account for this change, the Frontier will also come standard with the lithium-compatible Projecta IDC25L (12V) and Projecta IC2500L (240V) battery chargers. To ensure that you have full control over the power in the camper, the Frontier comes equipped with a 12V Master Switch and a 12V resettable fuse for the fridge.

We’ve added three LED sensor lights in the new Frontier – two under the lounges and one in the driver’s side locker- that automatically switches on when accessing these areas. The driver’s side locker also now comes equipped with a 12V Accessory/USB socket. Finally, we’ve also added a Fusion Stereo with twin speakers because nothing adds to the atmosphere of a remote campsite like your favourite songs playing in the background as you relax around the campfire.

These are some of the 25+ improvements to the new Frontier.

Despite the fact that we’ve added all of these new features as standard, we’ve succeeded in making the new Frontier even lighter. Weighing in with a tare of 1258kg, the new Frontier is almost a full 20kg lighter than the previous model.

The new Frontier is making its first appearance at the Caravan, Camping & Holiday Supershow Rosehill this week but will soon be viewable at all Cub dealers nationwide.
