Russell Falls, TAS

Located in the heart of Mt Field National Park in Tasmania, the iconic Russell Falls is one of the most photographed waterfalls in Australia, and for good reason. The falls consist of two main drops and a segmented, vertical appearance. This majestic feature is also one of the easiest waterfalls to get to and is only an hour outside of Hobart, making it a great location for a day trip. The camping facilities within the park are equipped with  toilets, electric barbecues, kiosk and a visitor centre near the start of the track.

Serpentine Gorge, NT

Serpentine Gorge in West MacDonnell National Park has a number of great features that make it an ideal spot for a camping holiday if you find yourself in the Northern Territory. In addition to the scenic walks and winding river, which is a great place for a swim in the warmer months, this is said to be one of the best spots for star gazing. Due to the lack of pollution an artificial light, this is a great location to spot satellites and shooting stars.

Carinya Station, NSW

This one comes from The Great Escape Australia

“One of our all time favourite places is Carinya Station, in Lightning Ridge. But it’s not your average campsite – you can camp for free there in exchange for helping around the station (you can do as much or as little as you want). It’s run by a lovely family with 3 young children who are unbelievably welcoming of visitors. And you can help with anything from collecting eggs, feeding animals, to helping with mustering, or just whatever else pops up. They have toilets and a washing machine available, but no showers. However you can pop down to the Lightning Ridge Hot Bore Bath which is also free and a short drive away.” – Renee Helms, The Great Escape – Australia
