After almost 2 years of intense research and development, Cub Campers is proud to announce the release of our first off-road caravan – the C16.
Backed by over 50 years of RV manufacturing experience, Cub is known for producing high-quality campers that are built to withstand the toughest Australian conditions. This experience has carried over and we’ve used everything we’ve learned from building camper trailers to create a fully off-road caravan using the tough-as-nails Cub DNA. The C16 is purpose-built for going off the beaten track and staying there for as long as possible. With a tare of 2000kg, an ATM of 2700kg and an unladen ball weight of 140kg, it’s light to tow. The low tow weight together low centre of gravity and narrow body make it a breeze to take off road and get you set up at the most remote campsites your vehicle can get to. Once there, the massive amount of lithium battery power, water capacity and solar capability will keep you self-sufficient for extended periods of time.
Australian Bluescope steel is expertly welded to form the chassis and trailing arms to withstand punishment from the toughest 4WD tracks. The body of the C16 is built using a timberless, composite construction utilising high-quality Complite structural insulated panels. Rot-proof poly reinforcement blocks run the entire internal perimeter for added strength. Complite structural insulated panels are lightweight, exceptionally strong and provide excellent impact resistance to minimise damage and maintain appearance. With the C16’s lightweight panels, low centre of gravity and narrow width, paired with dual shocks and independent suspension, we’ve ensured that it’s tough enough to tackle Australia’s most unforgiving 4WD tracks.
In addition to the quality of the construction, the comfort element of the design was an equally important consideration in the design process. Everything from the finish of the surfaces to the leather interior drawer handles were all carefully chosen to create a curated luxury off-road caravanning experience. Our goal for the C16 was to build a high-end studio apartment on wheels – perfect for the adventurous Australian couple who love to rough it during the day but aren’t afraid to admit that relaxation is essential once the sun goes down.
Included as standard is a Dometic Harrier Lite air conditioner to ensure the perfect internal temperature while you laze on the king-size pillow top mattress, streaming your favourite movie on the smart TV. There’s also a Fusion stereo with four speakers, two internally and two externally, along with a 4GX Wi-Fi router so you can stream your personalised camping playlist almost anywhere. The spacious ensuite shower and toilet, along with the Fantastic hatch for temperature control, means that you never need to leave the warmth of your caravan in the middle of the night to use the facilities.
With all of these comfort features as standard and the ability to go to the most isolated areas of the country, you’ll want to stay a while – so we’ve included plenty off-grid features to keep you remote for days on end. There’s plenty of lighting on the interior and exterior of the caravan. To ensure you’re well stocked for food, there’s an interior and exterior pantry, an interior 110L Dometic Coolmatic Fridge and a massive external fridge slide to suit your preferred model of camping fridge. For water, the C16 is fitted with two 100L freshwater tanks and one 100L grey water tank, as well as a Combi D6 diesel heater for your hot showers on cold Outback nights. Your electrical needs are covered with two 200ah lithium batteries and charged with four 180W solar panels, while all water and power levels monitored from the Redarc RedVision Total Vehicle Management System. Externally, the high-quality kitchen features a SMEV 3 burner stainless steel stove, a stainless-steel sink and LED lighting.
